noshOral history was one of the primary means by which the Jewish History Project Committee of the Jewish Federation of Ulster County acquired the background information it needed to mount the Jewish History of Kingston exhibit in 2002.  Following the success of that exhibit, the committee decided present a special evening grounded in oral history: A Nosh, Some Nostalgia and a 2¢ Plain.  The event was held in the social hall of Congregation Agudas Achim, on June 8, 2004.

The evening began with a kosher meal consisting of dishes prepared from recipes from old fundraising cookbooks from local synagogues.  The meal was followed by a panel discussion between panelists who we had previously been interviewed in 2002, sharing their recollections of Kingston.  Others in attendance were encouraged to ask questions and share stories of their own.

The event was videotaped and copies made available by subscription.

Thanks to a Technical Assistance Grant from the New York Folklore Society, the Jewish History Project Committee was able consulate with a folklorist, Janis Benincasa, to help structure the panel discussion and support the oral history initiative.

This event was sponsored by Basch & Keegan, LLP, Kingston, NY.
